Plastic.

Plastic. was a research project that explored how consumer perceptions of plastic as disposable could be shifted through visual strategies. This project attempted to disrupt notions of plastic as transient objects of convenience by demonstrating instead that plastic is a permanent material that is resistant to change. Using plastic waste collected from public collection bins, Plastic. investigates the material durability of plastic through physical experiments.

Plastic. resulted in a visual representation of how plastic behaves and manifests in landfill. This was finalised in two parts: through a series of sculptures which were made by heating and compressing layers of plastic together, and through a photographic publication that documented how certain plastics reacted to the heat. This project ultimately tells a story about the continued persistence of plastic even after disposal and communicates that plastic is a material with consequences.
