What We Left Behind

Publication, practice-led research

Library books are objects that we borrow and take home with us for a short period of time, but they are often not returned in the same condition as when they left. The traces of our use, our worlds and even of us have been left inside their pages as evidence of our interactions. What We Left Behind unearths and documents the collective notes, spills, rips and slips left by readers in Burwood library books and tells their stories of use. It seeks to quietly celebrate the things that have been long forgotten and overlooked. Ultimately, these traces bring forward the tangible form and nostalgic memories associated with physical books.
